Our Leadership
Paul Schomburg was appointed Area Director for CBMC Maryland starting in April 2022. He and his wife Janet have been married for 30+ years and have two daughters who live and work in Maryland. Prior to following God’s call to come onboard CBMC, Paul had a 33-year career with Panasonic as Director of Government & Public Affairs, supporting a diverse portfolio of businesses with a focus on technology policy and related industry affairs.
Paul was (re)introduced to Jesus through the CBMC downtown DC group and attended the weekly CBMC lunches at the Army-Navy Club, where he found mentors and built life-enriching friendships. In 2009, Paul started a Connect3 team in Gaithersburg MD, and has participated in CBMC’s Operation Timothy, Leadership Coach Training and CBMC International’s global conventions. He has also served on the CBMC Maryland Area Leadership Team for the past 8 years. CBMC Montgomery County (mococbmc.org) is the primary sponsor of the Montgomery County National Day of Prayer Breakfast, which brings together Christian ministries to pray in unity for the flourishing of the nation and the local community. Paul is a member of Shady Grove Presbyterian Church and serves on its men’s ministry and mission’s teams.
Paul was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland Ohio. He was commissioned Ensign in U.S. Navy through the NROTC scholarship program at Northwestern University. He advanced from Ensign to Lieutenant while serving on ships based in Japan, where he developed an appreciation for Japanese culture and a love for sushi. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he completed a joint MBA & MA degree in Japanese studies from the University of Michigan.
Chuck Whitmore has served as Area Director for CBMC in Maryland from January 2008 to April 2022. He is now working through the transition with Paul Schomburg as the Area Director. Following the transition, Chuck will be serving as a Field Partner in a supporting role. He and his wife, Vikki live in Timonium and have 3 grown children and four grandchildren. Prior to his call to full time work with CBMC, Chuck was employed by Crawford & Company, US Property and Casualty division, managing the six office locations in Maryland and Delaware. Crawford & Company is the largest independently owned claims services provider in the world. Chuck’s 31 year career with Crawford & Company provided an opportunity to live and work in five different cities in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Maryland. It was in Chattanooga Tennessee where Chuck committed his life to a personal relationship with Christ at a CBMC Prayer Breakfast at the age of 37. A business associate invited him to a Bible study where he discovered the Word of God speaking directly to his life. He has since served as a local CBMC Team Leader, an outreach speaker and has served on the CBMC USA Board of directors before accepting the full time call as CBMC Staff. He is a CBMC Leadership Coach Trainer, and has presented discipleship training “Building Spiritual Reproducers” workshop many times locally, regionally and internationally. Chuck is an Elder in his local church and has served as Chairman of its Missions Committee for many years.
Chuck has lived in the Baltimore area since 1990. He has served in the US Army Reserves as both a Commissioned Infantry officer and as a Staff Sergeant, and was a Drill Sergeant at Fort Polk, Louisiana. After graduating from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, Chuck’s first job was as a police officer with the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Department.
In his free time, Chuck enjoys Bible Study, bike riding, and travel. He has participated in building 18 homes with Sandtown Habitat for Humanity.
Chuck Brooks has been associated with CBMC in Maryland for six years and has served as a Field Partner with CBMC since January 2018. At CBMC Maryland Chuck teaches and shepherds men and supports the needs in the areas of graphic design and information technology. Before his call to CBMC he was a church planter and bivocational pastor from 1994 to 2016.
For over 22 years Chuck also held a variety of tech positions with Northrop Grumman, including, but not limited to, Systems Analyst, Product Manager, Email Administrator, Software Developer, Test-Technician Supervisor and Quality Engineer. Mark Thayer has been serving as a Field Partner with CBMC since January 2019. Mark oversees our Leadership Institute Trusted Advisory Groups. His friendship with and mentorship by strong Christian men – and sharing his life with his wife, a very godly woman – has had huge effects on his life. Being a member of a Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church with a strong pastor and lay leaders has been a huge factor in his walk as a Christian. Mark testifies that, “Every day, Jesus Christ is molding me into a much better man than I have ever been or could ever hope to be without Him. And the most exciting news is that it’s just beginning!”
From his high school years into the 90s, Mark worked for the American Red Cross, a great helping organization. As he continued into and through his more mature years, his desire to serve grew to where he is now active in his church as an Adult Sunday School teacher, deacon, personnel team member, deacon treasurer. Mark is also honored to help mentor and disciple four men.
There was every evidence that God was calling Mark to CBMC. While he’s been associated with CBMC for years – via Operation Timothy – only recently has a burn emerged to serve the LORD through CBMC. Dave Moyer was instrumental in leading Mark to the Leadership Institute’s Facilitator training experience with an eye toward being considered for a staff position. Seeing God at work in the Trusted Advisor meeting that was conducted with Mark’s assistance, combined with (or multiplied by) interactions with Don Hoffert, led unmistakably to conviction that engaging with this process in this manner was God’s calling Mark to this ministry.
Dave Moyer, CBMC Field Partner, is the Lead Pastor at Perry Hall Baptist Church and Executive Director of the Maryland Bible Society, an organization dedicated to proclaiming the greatness of God, through the Word of God. In his part time role with Maryland Bible Society, Dave leads partnership development with local, national, and international ministries that share a common heart for spreading the fame of Christ. Dave serves in leadership with many local ministries including Beachmont Christian Ministries, Christian Scholar-Servant Ministries, and True Life Discipleship Counseling. Don McGonigle, Field Associate for the CBMC, has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of systems engineering, program and content management with specialized expertise in web based Knowledge Management and dissemination solutions such as information portals, databases, and collaborative systems including healthcare quality measures. Don is a certified Project Management Professional and Amateur Radio Operator. He is married to his wife Beth for over 40 years and has two grown children.
His initial exposure to the Gospel was in college using the Navigators materials soon after he accepted Christ in college and continued through Sunday School teachings while serving in the US Air Force. Recently he was privileged to lead the Church Council at his local church and Band of Brothers men’s group in addition to other discipleship group studies.
He currently volunteers as a Field Associate for the CBMC Maryland Area and is involved Young Professional and several Connect 3 teams. After leading several men through Operation Timothy, he was able to take the CBMC Leadership Coach Training and is currently a Certified Coach Trainer.
